And then there were three

Today has been hectic, relaxed and chaotic all rolled into one. It’s exactly as a house should be that has three boys who live in it, but it’s been so long since Colman’s felt good, I’d forgotten what it was like. Three boys running through the house chasing each other with Nerf guns. Three boys playing basketball outside. Three boys wrestling with each other and a crazy pillow fight where Rowan fell off the bed.

It’s all good.

Colman came in from playing basketball to get a drink of water and I asked, “Are you tired?”

“Nope. I quit because I was BORED,” he said, with a big smile on his face.

The transformation in the span of just a couple of days is absolutely amazing.

“Now,” Colman said with a worried look, “if I could just grow!”

“Don’t worry about that,” I said. “Don’t even put that pressure on yourself. I’ll figure that out. Okay?”

“Okay. Because that’s your job, right, Mom?”

“That’s my job. And what’s your job?”

“To be a kid, have fun and make good grades!”

And I will do my best to figure it out. But, right now, I want to be in the present. I don’t want to worry about plastic bronchitis, swelling, heart failure and all the other things that go along with Colman. I want him to enjoy this energy. And I want to enjoy this mischievous, happy little boy that I lost two years ago.

He’s back! And he’s better than ever.
