It’s going around

On Friday afternoon going into Labor Day Weekend, our kids started going down like dominoes. Liam came home barely able to walk. He had a blister on his pinky toe from some new soccer cleats that turned into cellulitis, which was super painful for him and really gross for me. Ten days of a high-powered antibiotic and staying off that foot and he’s back on the soccer fields this week.

Then Rowan was grouchy that Friday night, but I assumed it was the Howard Meltdown. I assumed wrong. He ended up with fever and bronchitis and we made a visit to his pediatrician’s clinic that weekend.

Then I guess Colman didn’t want to feel left out, so he got on board with the whole bronchitis thing as well. It was about this time I heard, “There’s something that’s going around.”

I was hopeful that maybe I might escape it all, but then I woke up on Tuesday morning with a horrible sore throat. I’m not sure why I even tried, but I called my regular doctor, and they said they could get me in sometime towards the end of November, which makes me wonder why I bother with a regular doctor? I mean, November? Really? No thanks. I’ll either be dead by then of the morbid sore throat, or I’ll be all better. Either way, November is not helpful when you feel like you’re swallowing razor blades right now.

I went to urgent care, and I tested positive for strep. But the doctor said he felt there was also something going on with my lungs and said I probably had bronchitis. Ya think?

So a couple of weeks into the new school year, and I have to say last week completely kicked me in the tail. It was awful. I’m finally starting to feel human again, even though I wouldn’t say I’m 100 percent. I know the boys are still a bit crabby.

Kevin has managed to remain pretty much unscathed unless you count almost dying of boredom over the Labor Day holiday. Three sick kids does not make for a fun holiday. Although, I love snuggling the kids and staying in my pajamas all day, which is probably why I got tagged with all the germs.

But it looks like everyone is finally turning the corner. Here’s to hoping we don’t get taken out in the knees like that again any time soon.
