Houston (means that I’m one day closer to you)

Later this afternoon, Colman and I will be on our way to Houston for what is, hopefully, the last day of tests for the transplant evaluation. I believe I can say with certainty after tomorrow that we’ve seen more specialists than not. And I’m not sure that’s something to brag about, but I’ll just go with it. Our appointments tomorrow are with a psychologist, psychiatrist and the infectious disease doctors so that we can go ahead and accelerate Colman’s vaccination schedule. If he does end up getting listed for transplant, they want him to have all of the vaccinations that he’d normally have in his teen years now. After you’re immunosuppressed, you can still get vaccines, but they don’t stick as well.

(By the way, “After you’re immunosuppressed, you can still get vaccines, but they don’t stick as well” is how I understand it. Those are not the words someone said who has an actual M.D. behind their name.)

Then we have an appointment next Thursday, February 20th, at TCH in the clinic, but that’s just a “regular” appointment, which will involve EKG, echo and blood.

I haven’t told Colman about the vaccines yet. I was just going to let him be surprised about those. Or maybe I’ll tell him when he’s loading up on candy tonight at our usual stop at Buc-ees. I haven’t decided yet. Either way, I think it’s safe to say he’s probably going to be really pissed.

In honor of Congenital Heart Defects Awareness week, I was invited to write a guest post for Alamo City Moms Blog outlining Colman’s story. I know many of you are intimately familiar with our story, but if you’re interested, you can read about it here.

Thanks for checking on us. We appreciate all of the good thoughts, positive energy, prayers and Buddha belly rubs that you all send our way.

Why is it that every time we’re on our way to Houston, I get that song “Houston” by the Gatlin Brothers stuck in my mind? That’s called an “ear worm” when you get a song stuck in your head. I just wanted y’all to know that. Last weekend, at a birthday party for my nephew and niece, people were laughing because Rowan kept singing “What Does the Fox Say?” over and over while bouncing in the bouncy castle. I said something along the lines of, “Yeah, he’s got a crazy ear worm,” and people started pulling their kids out of the jumpy house left and right. I didn’t realize what was going on until someone asked me if it was contagious.

Well, yeah, but not the way you think.

Geez. Don’t people keep up with new entries in the Urban Dictionary?

  1. Good luck in Houston and with the young man who is bound to be pissed at you no matter how much Buc-ee’s sugar he managed to ingest en route. Anxious to read the next update.

  2. HAHAHA! I absolutely LOVE that you and Rowan cleared out the jumpy house. Hysterical! And always always always sending good vibes Colman’s way. ❤ 🙂
